I wasn't sure how the hands would look on the 'bot, but I think they're going to be OK. Thanks!! I've been pushing pretty hard lately to get the hardware stuff finished in order to get back to my software. and a screenshot from Vectric Cut2D (1 sheet from today's job): Some brackets I've made with the current setup: Long story short, Grizzly G0556 pan-and-box brake with a custom precision backstop. Now, bending brackets is a completely different adventure. I hand tap, it's better than breaking taps when fussing with small 4-40 and M2 taps. #Vectric cut2d cracker software#IMO, this type of mill (chinese import converted) is best suited to prototypes, and prototypes only - no way would I consider any kind of volume on this machine!!įor bot work in alu brackets (and sometimes plastics), my setup seems to do just fine - and my software was cheap!! $250 or so for Cut2D and Mach3, and a CAD program I've had for years (sorry, won't name it here, too funny, perhaps even sad!). I found a problem with one of the bearing blocks a while back, ended up boring it out a bit, which left the mill better off than it has ever been. Retrofit kit was from a company that has since gone out of business (it uses a nice Z hack, running the ballscrew through the z casting). Mine isn't a production machine - it's a converted X2 mill, big steppers, open loop, small work envelope. I have only good things to say about Vectric's Cut2D - when I'm in it, I'm in and out pretty quickly, it gets the job done pretty well for a $100 software package!! At the same time, I'm not making terribly complex parts - basically just routing and drilling, and some would say stepped pockets don't quite amount to 3D CNC. Still will use Mach3, even though I think it's ugly and cluttered (yes, I realize you can script your own UI's, but I don't want to spend the time to learn someone's UI scripting - it doesn't matter that much to me!). If I go that route, I'll end up buying the Mecsoft CAM to use with Rhino (which costs more than Rhino does!). Latest version seems better than previous ones. I have tried Rhino3D's demo, and for the money, it seems like the best solution in currently available software. ![]() #Vectric cut2d cracker free#As long as my old CAD program is better for me than the free stuff, I'll continue to use it!! Some people like some of them, I just don't. Most I've tried seem like half-finished works. I've tried a number of the free packages out there, I just don't like them. There just isn't much in the way of CAD and CAM software that is cheap and yet good. My toolpath is CAD (very old 2D program) to DXF, DXF to Vectric Cut2D, Vectric Cut2D G-code files to Mach3. I know this is an older thread, but I figured I'd throw some info out there that might be useful to some. ![]()
